AoTTG download: getting the Attack on Titan Tribute Game running

The original tribute game, why the browser version is gone, and what to install instead.

The short version: the Attack on Titan Tribute Game you remember ran inside the Unity Web Player, a browser plugin that was discontinued and removed from every modern browser. There is no version of the original you can click and play in a tab any more, no matter what a site promises.

What still exists is the standalone Windows build, distributed by the community. It runs offline for practice and connects to community-hosted servers for multiplayer. It is free, it has always been free, and anyone asking you to pay for it or to complete a survey to unlock a link is scamming you.

How to install it

Get the standalone build from a community source you already trust. The active AoTTG and AoTTG 2 Discord servers and subreddits keep current links pinned. Prefer a link that a community moderator posted over one from a search result.
Extract the archive to its own folder. Do not extract it into Downloads, and do not run it from inside the ZIP. The game reads its map and asset files relative to the executable.
If Windows SmartScreen blocks it, that is expected for an unsigned fan build. Only click through if you trust where the file came from.
Launch the executable, not the launcher shortcut if one is bundled from an older release. Start in single player to confirm it runs before you touch multiplayer.
For multiplayer, open the server list in-game. If it is empty, that is the servers, not your install. See the "no servers" section of our fix guide.

Before you run anything

AoTTG is free. Any download that asks for payment, a survey, an SMS confirmation or an "unlocker" is not AoTTG.
The real build is an archive containing an executable and a data folder. If what you downloaded is a single small .exe installer, be suspicious. That is the shape of a dropper, not a Unity game.
Scan anything you download. A fan-made game is not signed, so your antivirus warning is not proof of malware, but it is also not proof of safety.
Mods and custom map packs are where most problems come from. Install the base game first, confirm it runs, and only then add mods one at a time.

Can I download AoTTG for Mac?

There is no maintained macOS build of the original. The standalone releases are Windows. If you are on a Mac, TitanRoyale runs in the browser on macOS with no install.

Is AoTTG safe to download?

The community-distributed build is safe when you get it from a source the community actually uses. The risk is not AoTTG itself, it is the mirror sites that wrap it in an installer. Prefer links pinned in an active community over anything a search engine surfaces.

Why does AoTTG not open in my browser any more?

It required the Unity Web Player. Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari all removed support for NPAPI plugins, and Unity discontinued the Web Player entirely. No browser can run it.

Is AoTTG still worth downloading?

If you want the original mod scene and custom maps, yes. If you want people to play with tonight, AoTTG 2 has more of them, and TitanRoyale has the most, and with no install at all.
